Why Is Old News Good News?
“Every age has its own outlook. It is specially good at seeing certain truths and specially liable to make certain mistakes. We all, therefore, need the books that will correct the characteristic mistakes of our own period. And that means the old books.” -C. S. Lewis*
Here I am, the keeper of the old family papers, working hard to make a good copy of an ancestral photo, while balancing a cat on my back. My house is FULL of antique paper- photos, letters, and documents. These are the tangible remains of family members long gone, and I would like to time-travel with you to their world.
My name is Lynn (Mitchell) Bridge and I live in Austin, TX. You may contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each post in this blog will introduce you to a letter or photo or other paper record from the past, 1819 through the 1960’s. You will be able to read between the lines, or look behind the scenes, and find out how people in earlier times lived daily life and confronted their problems.
You will walk away from each blog post with fresh ideas for understanding your own life and times and the decisions that must be made. Come with me to face the future through the door of the past!
